Promoting the Scottish arts and traditions in the North.
For nearly thirty years the Fairbanks Red Hackle Pipe Band has shared its love for Highland music and dance with Fairbanks and the Interior, presenting public and private performances of piping, drumming, and Highland dance.
The band and individual performers have won championships and many ribbons at Highland games including those at Eagle River, Whitehorse, and Fairbanks. The Red Hackles participate in community events including the Golden Days parades, the Tanana Valley State Fairs, visits to schools and the Pioneer's Home, and fundraisers for community organizations.
The Alaska Legislature commended the band in 1994, for "their contribution of entertainment and enrichment of the people of Alaska." The band welcomes anyone interested in learning to play pipes, drums, or to dance the traditional Scottish dances.

The Eighteenth Alaska State Legislature is pleased to honor the Fairbanks Red Hackle Pipe Band for twenty years of entertainment and community service.
Since the band was founded in 1974 with six pipers and drummers, it has grown in size and reputation, and members have added Highland dancing and contemporary drumming style and tunes to their repertoire. Their dedication to excellence has led to many championships for the band in international competitions, including the Yukon, Anchorage, Eagle River, Fairbanks, and Honolulu.
In addition to their winning ways in Highland competitions, the Red Hackles have participated in a wide variety of community events, including the Golden Days parades; Tanana Valley and McGrath fairs; numerous fundraisers, such as the Fairbanks Symphony, KUAC, the Yukon Quest, the Riverboat Nenana, and various area high school bands; the Pioneers' Home; and UAF events, including commencement processions. Space does not permit a complete listing of their contributions to the Fairbanks community.
Many people have worked hard to make the Red Hackle Pipe Band so successful, starting with the current members of the band. They are: Pipe Major Robert G. White; Pipers Lee Larson, John Myers, Gregg Robbs, Alan Schon, Dennis Stephens, Stephen Stephens, Tamar Stephens and Ian White; Student Pipers Maria Berger and Kathy Humphrey; Drummers Paul Epstein, Valerie Epstein, June Pinnell-Stephens, Arthur Robson, Val Stuve and Sandra White. Former members and special friends of the Red Hackles include: Gordy Alder, Cheryle Barrett, Steve Barrett, Maggie Billington, Mark Boyer, Roberta Fraser, Warren Fraser, Tom Hassler, Ronn Jerabek, Paula Johnson, Jennifer Johnston, Chuck Kaltenbach, Shirley Kaltenbach, Ed Kirk, JR Lewis, Ed McLaughlin, Laurel McLaughlin, Paige McLaughlin, George Moerlein, Dan Molnar, Dennis Patterson, Cathy Pearce, Eric Rice, Joan Robson, Elaine Saney and Todd Sargent.
For twenty years the Fairbanks Red Hackle Pipe Band has been committed to proudly upholding the music and traditions of the Scottish Highlands. The Eighteenth Alaska State Legislature recognizes their contribution of entertainment and enrichment of the people of Alaska, and wishes them well for their next twenty years.
